What Is the Difference Between Residential and Business NetPhones?

All-In-One Business VoIP, Hosted PBX and IP Handset.

NetPhones are IP phones configured with a VoIP service that allows you to make and receive calls over the internet. They don’t require a traditional telephone line to operate and all you need to do is connect it to a suitable broadband connection.

Although many of the IP phones come with some advanced features, these are dependent on the VoIP service that’s used to make it fully operational. There are essentially two types of NetPhones, with the difference being the features and functions that come with the VoIP service.

Residential NetPhone

A direct replacement for the ordinary telephone, it’s configured with a standard VoIP service that allows it to make and receive phone calls over the internet. It comes with a telephone number and basic call operation features which may vary between providers. Unlike business NetPhones which use SIP trunks for voice, data and video transmissions, residential netphones mainly use standard VoIP that’s only able to transmit voice calls. Apart from lower call quality, they’re limited to basic functions and designed for residential use.

Business NetPhone

Business NetPhones are a lot more than just phones. Apart from using the SIP protocol, which is business grade VoIP with much greater quality and functionality, they come connected to a hosted PBX service. That enables it to deliver functionality of a fully featured, enterprise grade business PBX system. Not only will you be able to utilise all the functions of the IP handset, you will also be able to configure the phone without many limitations.

Apart from the functions built into the IP handset, a hosted PBX service delivers call handling features like Auto Attendant (IVR), Business Intro Messages, Voice2Email, On-Hold Music and Promotional Messages, and many others. Call operation features like Multi-Party Conferencing, Mobility Function and Remote Office are also included.

Create a Business PBX with NetPhones

One of the best features is the seamless ability to add other netphones to the account and create a fully functional business PBX. Once there are 2 or more netphones in a group, the handsets can be configured to work line PBX extensions. That allows for functions like Hunt and Ring Groups, Any Extension Pick-Up, Call Park and Call Transfer to be activated.

A business NetPhone is an out-of-the-box solution for almost any office phone requirement. The combination of business VoIP, hosted PBX and an IP handset delivers exceptional functionality and most of all, it is future proof and easily scalable.
